In the 1980s under Augusto Pinochet's regime in Chile, a small group
of independent photographers took to the streets and documented the
atrocities, the violence and the riots going on around them. While
Pinochet's army had guns, the photographers had an equally dangerous
weapon: their cameras. The act of taking a photograph became an
expression of freedom. When they were published in Chile and abroad,
the photographers' shocking images of terror became their potent
contribution to revolution. Among the fearless band of photographers
in Santiago was filmmaker Sebastián Moreno's father. His testimony in
words and pictures is laid out in this film alongside contributions
from his colleagues and archival footage which brings the images of
the past to life. The photographers' black and white pictures serve as
their legacy: an unfading reminder of the horrors of a brutal
dictatorship and of the courageous spirit of a group of artists. A
tribute to " 30 years of Chileans in Exile".
En los años ochenta bajo el régimen de Augusto Pinochet en Chile, un
pequeño grupo de fotógrafos independientes salió a las calles y
documentó las atrocidades, los disturbios y los enfrentamientos que
estaban ocurriendo. El ejército tenía armas pero los fotógrafos
poseían otras igualmente peligrosas: sus cámaras. Sacar una fotografía
se convirtió en una expresión de libertad. Cuando se publicaron en
Chile y en el extranjero, las espantosas imágenes de terror captadas
por los fotógrafos se convirtieron en su potente contribución a la
revolución.
Entre este atrevido grupo de fotógrafos se encontraba el padre del
director Sebastián Moreno. Su testimonio verbal y fotográfico se
presenta junto a las contribuciones de sus colegas y otras imágenes de
archivo que nos hacen revivir el pasado. Las fotografías en blanco y
negro son su legado: el recuerdo inalterable de los horrores de una
dictadura brutal y del valor de un grupo de artistas. Tributo a "30

Fuga / Fugue

"Fuga" is the story of a symphony. Eliseo is a composer obsessed by
the rape and murder of his pianist sister when they were both
pubescent children in a wealthy Chilean family. In his adult life he
continues to be tormented by the tragedy and, after the death of his
lover, also a pianist, Eliseo goes mad and is committed to an asylum.
There he spends his days in a lonely and decrepit room composing his
magnum opus on the walls. Meanwhile, in the outside world a mediocre
Argentine music student, Ricardo, discovers fragments of the "lost"
symphony. Initially Ricardo passes the masterpiece off as his own but
then decides he must track down the elusive Eliseo. In this
sophisticated journey through music and madness, director Pablo
Larraín has created a unique portrait of the mystery of art and the
deep passions it awakens. Awarded at London Latin American FF 2006,
Trieste FF 2007, Viña del Mar FF 2007.
"Fuga" es la historia de una sinfonía. De cómo un hombre intenta
escapar de esa genial melodia y de cómo otro, intenta hacerla propia.
Una tragedia en la infancia hundirá a Eliseo en un mundo alienado y su
destino está magistralmente expresado en la imagen final de un piano
de cola hundiéndose en el océano con él amarrado al instrumento. Un
viaje por la música y la locura: un drama universal que retrata la
condición humana a través del conflicto de la creación y las profundas
pasiones que ella despierta. Obsesión, pasión, muerte pero sobre todo
la belleza de la música sinfónica como personaje central en esta
soberbia producción premiada en los festivales de Cartagena y Málaga.
El director, Pablo Larraín ha creado un film sofisticado que exuda el misterio de la creacion y de la música. |
